We asked each student/Spirit of Place participant to respond to the same questions to reflect on their experience so far...
What is your favorite thing about Inishturk so far? The people by far. They're all so friendly!
What would be one distinguishing characteric of the Irish people that you’ve met? Their sense of humor is much more advanced than ours. They're tricksters and I enjoy that they keep everything fun.
Most surprising thing you’ve experienced? The nicer weather (unlike today) has been a pleasant surprise!
Favorite food so far? Banoffee (Annie Alice O'Toole's Banana Toffee pie at Teach Abhainn B&B). No question about that.
Words to evoke the five senses of Inishturk…Sight, smell, taste, sound, touch…sixth sense? (spiritual, supernatural, fairies….) green, moist/like sheep poop, homey tasting food!, quiet and calming sounds, soft lovely ground, I think everyone here is a fairy or leprechaun they just haven't revealed it to us.
How will you see stones differently from now on? I will try to read their grain and see if I can assess the easiest way to break them. I would have never tried to read a stone before.
If you had to pack all over again, what would your bring more of and less of? I would bring more lounging clothes. I only thought we'd be working! Didn't consider the fun/relaxation that would happen here.
